Seasons Greetings!
Much has been going on in General Music classes since September!
Second Grade
In early October we sang songs about trains.
We began learning our songs for the Holiday Musical.
Students performed many songs in the spirit of the season - singing, moving, and playing musical instruments to some colorful music.
In early November students learned the choreography to their songs for the Holiday Musical.
They performed songs like, Kinds of Foods, She-ll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain, Over the River And Through the Woods, The Farmer in the Dell, and a symphonic work entitled, "The Children's Symphony." Finally they learned a fun Square Dance. Yahoo!!! It is now December and we are enjoying songs for Christmas, Las Posada, and Hanukkah!
Third Grade
In early October students dramatized to the music of Stravinsky's "The Firebird". We had a ball, wearing costumes and using props and scenery.
Students played recorders and are making a much more pleasant and tuneful sound.
We sang many songs for Halloween, played musical instruments, and played fun games.
Students learned their songs for the Holiday Musical in October and learned the choreography in November.
Students sang songs for Thanksgiving, made Indian headbands and dramatized a short Indian story. They also did some square dancing! Yeehah!
Here in December we have enjoyed singing Christmas songs, songs of Hanukkah, and Las Posadas! We even played the Dreidle game!
Some lucky kids won the chocolate coins!
4th Grade
Students had fun in October singing many songs in the spirit of the season.
They played classroom instruments and moved to music. The students put on two short plays for the younger students: "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything" and "Big Pumpkin."
They played recorders and also enjoyed their first session of "Mallet Madness."
In November students sang many American Folk songs, Square Danced, practiced Phrase & Direction in music, and even took rhythmic dictation.
They studied the Treble Staff and played a song on the melody bells in unison and a round.
It is now December and we just put on The Story of the Nutcracker for second and third grades!
5th Grade
Fifth graders have already had 3 sessions of Mallet Madness. (Ask your child what that is)
In October we reviewed many music symbols, sang, moved to music, and played instruments to songs of the season.
Students all participated in the dramatization of the music Dance Macabre, by Camille Saint Saens and performed for many classes.
Students studied Tempo and Dynamics in November and sang American Folk Songs of the west. They sang partner songs, rounds, and performed a rhythm rap.
Fifth grade practiced the Bass Clef and a quiz of given on naming notes in that clef.
Students square danced to "Take a Little Peek!" This is a fast square dance!
It is now December and we are still singing and playing recorders!
Our songs are of Christmas, Hanukkah, and Las Posadas. One Christmas carol was from Ireland!
