Elementary art and design is an exploration of many art forms--
painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, collage, mixed media, and ceramics. We practice good work habits using scissors, glue, paint, drawing tools, and 3-D materials such as clay, wood, plaster, and paper mache. We learn how to use line, shape, color, texture and form to compose art that expresses what we observe and imagine. Art from many cultures and periods of time inspires our lessons. At the end of each trimester, we compile our best projects into a portfolio to proudly share with family and friends.
We are exploring the power of color in visual art and design. Young artists are investigating how to mix colors and use their favorites to express nature, illustrate stories, and explore multicultural ideas.

Atlanta Area Elementary Art Teachers' 2nd Annual Open House
January 2010
Joy Patty (K-2nd art) and Katherine Schneider (3rd-5th art)
invited Atlanta area independent school elementary art teachers to an open house at Lovett.
We shared ideas and got to know colleagues from around the city. Schools represented at the meeting included Pace Academy, Woodward Academy, Holy Spirit Prep, Westminster, Friends, Wesleyan, St. Martin's Episcopal School, Atlanta Youth Academy and
Mt. Bethel Christian. Katherine Schneider set up a Wiki space so we can share ideas during the year.
