There is something new under the sun! We are trying a summer reading experiment. Instead of requiring everyone in the upper school to read the same book, we have allowed the students in each grade to choose the common book they will read this summer. In effect, we have gone from one common book to four. We are doing this in an effort to give students more ownership of their summer reading and to make summer reading more enjoyable. Students in each grade chose from a selected list of books that have literary and intellectual merit. In a culture that increasingly is saturated by visual images and sound bites, Lovett continues to affirm the power, beauty and educational value of the printed word.
