To find additional information about a curricular area, click on that curricular button above.  These pages will be updated from time to time with additional curricular information.   THE LOVETT SCHOOL HOMEWORK POLICY Philosophy We realize that creating a home school connection is important to school success. Therefore, thoughtful home engagement that scaffolds student learning issomething we support.  We are mindful that in order for children to befully invested in their learning at school, they need time after school tounwind, play, develop outside interests, spend time with their family, and geta good night’s sleep. The following homework guidelines have been developed toallow families some flexibility in creating a homework schedule that enhances their family life. 4th Grade Homework Policy Statement Guidelines Reading and math logs center around students developing personal goal setting skills; these goals will be initiated through a teacher/student partnership. Teachers will provide options for reinforcement and enrichment. Students will study for all tests and quizzes. Ample time to complete daily work is provided in class, but, on occasion, some students will need to complete unfinished work at home.  All homework and logs will be assigned on Monday, and will be due on the following Monday. Reading will be completed and logged four times a week. Math activities will be completed and logged three times a week. One writing assignment, to be determined by the teacher, will be completed each week. All fourth grade students are expected to read a minimum of 4 times a week. Students will develop their reading understandings by: Choosing books that match their ability Selecting from a variety of genres Keeping a reading log to set goals and track progress Practicing the reading strategies introduced in class Having reading conversations with others All fourth grade students are expected to complete math homework 3 times a week. Students will develop their math understandings by choosing from the following list of suggested activities: Practicing math facts   Engaging in problem solving activities Playing Everyday Math Games  Completing math journal pages and Study Links Reviewing challenging concepts Preparing for assessments Students will develop their writing understandings by engaging in one writing activity per week. This may include: Free choice writing in their writer's notebooks Writing about reading Writing in their social studies notebooks Writing for a resource class
