We all know the best way to learn a new language is to live it and spend time in the country where the language is spoken. This gives one the opportunity to see the language in action and learn the joy of successfully communicating in a second language. France is far and Quebec is cold, but Minnesota in April can be quite nice. In fact, M. Deveault is hoping to take a small group of his fifth grade students to participate in an exciting language program this spring at Concordia College of Moorhead, Minnesota.
Concordia is an internationally recognized and respected world language and culture immersion program founded in 1961. The mission of Concordia Language Village is to prepare young people for responsible citizenship in our global community. Immersed in another culture, students gain a new perspective on the world through activities and games, art and crafts, singing and dancing, authentic meals and conversation with fluent speakers of the language. Concordia Language Villages encourages the celebration of diversity, unity, peace, stewardship, and justice.
Lovett students, along with their French teachers, will fly to Minnesota to spend the weekend at Lac du Bois, Concordia’s French Village located near Bemidji in the northern Minnesota forest. Please check the links provided for more detailed information about the trip, but to get you started please know ...
• Space will be open to 20 – 30 fifth grade students
• All transportation and tuition costs will be covered by the student; approximate cost: $650.00
• Lovett will provide the necessary chaperones
• Students may be excused from one day of class for travel
• The Lovett business office will handle all billing for the trip
Participation in this program is completely voluntary and obviously, only for the highly motivated. Please talk to your fifth grader about this opportunity and if you are interested, please contact M. Deveault, Mme. Davis or Mme. Dubugnon. As you'll see from the attached timeline we have a tight schedule for registration if we want to hold our reservation. Also, if we have more than 30 interested students, we will conduct a lottery to decide which students will be able to join us this spring. Read on and feel free to contact anyone in the LS Foreign Language Department with questions!!
Bon Voyage!!
